Founded in 1996, ACNE (Ambition to Create Novel Expression) is a Stockholm-based collective and lifestyle brand dedicated to developing refined, desirable products. Applying its rare perspective in a number of fields, the brand has earned international recognition for its unique interpretation of fashion, graphic design, film production, and advertising.

ACNE’s creative director, Jonny Johansson, launched the first ready-to-wear collection in 1998, which featured incredibly wearable and effortlessly stylish designs that would become the signature of the brand: subtlety, luxury, understatement. ACNE’s foundation lies, too, in its aim to occupy unexplored territory in the denim market. In fact, it all began with 100 pairs of unisex, red-stitched jeans that had leading international boutiques clamoring to carry them.

Enter ACNE’s relationship with Opening Ceremony. In 2007, when Opening Ceremony announced it would feature a year of design partnerships with Sweden, ACNE was placed at the helm. The continued relationship between the two companies has produced a strong and modern statement that maintains the ideals of both.

ACNE Paper, a biannual publication that has risen to cult status, is a visual complement to the collective, communicating the brand’s inspirations and affinities. Featured themes range from art to erotica to spirituality. Its most recent issue is the Tenth Anniversary edition.

Today ACNE is available in stores and engaged in projects across 9 countries.
